I'm very happy and honored to announce that I was awarded two Black & White Spider Awards - Merit of Excellence - in the categories Fine Art and Nature. The winning images will be published in the World's Greatest Black & White Photography, Vol 2, and included in the Masters of Photography International Exhibition. I'm also very proud to announce that I'm a Merit Award Winner in the Black & White Magazine Single Image Contest 2009. The awarded photograph will be published in the Special Issue of Black & White Magazine scheduled to arrive on newsstands worldwide the first week of December, 2008. My solo exhibition, Water Works, is opening tonight, October 30, at galleri ikon here in Stockholm, Sweden. I will attend the opening reception from 5-9pm. The exhibition is running from Oct 30 to Nov 23, 2008. I just updated the portfolio Sweden II with 17 new images from a recent trip to the south part of Sweden, and 9 new images in the portfolio Stockholm. July 2008 A new portfolio from the United States is now published on the website. I spent a few days in the Mid-Atlantic states during the heatwave in June, with boiling mercury in the upper 90's! I also made a short detour down to Atlanta, Georgia. I'm very pleased to have my work included in the anniversary issue of SHOTS, no: 100, summer 2008. This well-reputed magazine is an independent journal for fine art photography, based in Minneapolis, USA. My image Rock Group was selected as the First Prize in Pilsner Urquell's promotion for photography in conjuction with the fine wine retailer Oddbins in the UK. The image was taken on a blustery day in January 2007, just a stone throw from the swedish director Ingmar Bergman's house at Hammars in Fårö, Sweden. The image was selected among 300 winners of International Photography Awards 2007. May 2008
Prix De La Photographie Paris (PX3) announces winners of the 2008 Competition. Håkan Strand of Sweden was Awarded: First Prize in category Nature for the entry titled, Little Lighthouse, and Second Prize in category Fine Art for the entry titled, Water Works. In addition to these two Awards, Håkan Strand also received 6 Honorable Mentions. The jury selected 2008's winner from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries. I'm very pleased to announce that the scandinavian magazine CAMERA NATURA will be featuring an 8 page spread with an interview in the first issue of 2008. November 2007 A new portfolio with 42 images from Iceland is now up on the website. As you can see, I have made a few updates lately. A special thanks to my wonderful wife, Deborah, for layout and design, and to my friend, Giuseppe Irollo, for all the work behind the scenes. I would also like to thank my eldest son, Paul, for being a good travel companion, and for his "sherpa work" on my recent trip to Iceland.

International Photography Awards (IPA) announces winners of the 2007 Competition. Håkan Strand of Sweden was Awarded: 1st and 2nd place in Fine Art Category, Landscape, for his Waterfront Studies. One of his award winning photographs was also selected for the Best Of Show. The 2007 Best of Show exhibition debuts at the Splashlight Studio Party on October 13, in New York before traveling to 8 cities internationally. I will have three images and a short narrative published in the May issue of the brittish magazine, Black & White Photography. The three images were taken on a recent trip to Gotland this year. Gotland is a beautiful island located in the Baltic sea, a three-hour boat ride from the Swedish main land. |
