October 2011 My solo exhibition, City - Nature, at Gallery London in Uppsala, Sweden, ran from September 23rd to October 2nd, extended by request to October 9th. This exhibition contained 44 framed prints, my biggiest exhibition so far. Gallery ARTITLED! Contemporary Art showed some of my works from the New York City Collection at the art fair ARTI11 in The Hauge, The Netherlands, October 5th to October 9th. Chris Kovac's interview in the third edition of Adore Noir Magazine, regarding my work as a photographer, was selected as the Editor's Choice in Photo News Magazine, Toronto, Canada. August 2011 I recently updated the website with a new portfolio with 20 new photographs from the Faroe Islands. I'm currently participating in a group exhibition called Shot in 2011. The exhibition is running from July 17th to August 28th at gallery ARTITLED! Contemporary Art in The Netherlands. There is a new interview regarding my work as a photographer by Chris Kovacs. May 2011 It's truly a great honor that my image, Stepping Stones, decorates the cover of internationally acclaimed pianist Frédéric D'Oria-Nicolas latest CD; ODYSSEY, Beethoven - Liszt - Wagner. In addition, my image, By The Lake, decorates the cover of internationally acclaimed pianist Jean Muller's latest CD; Chopin Recital. These two CDs are produced by Fondamenta, an exclusive label company for classical music of the highest quality, located in Paris, France. I will be participating in two group exhibitions this summer. The first exhibition, THE CITY, will be held at gallery ARTITLED! Contemporary Art in The Netherlands. The exhibition will be running from May 29th to July 10th, 2011. I will also be participating in BLUR PHOTO 011 in Croatia. This exhibition will take place at Hrvatska Posta, Croatian National Post Office, located in the heart of Zagreb city center. The exhibition will be running from June 9th to July 3rd, 2011. BLUR PHOTO 011 is an annual exhibition of international creative photography to celebrate the diversity and beauty of photography. Each BLUR PHOTO exhibition presents a selection of the best photography artwork published in BLUR Magazine during the previous year, as voted on by a jury of photography experts April 2011 I am very glad to announce that I am now represented by the gallery ARTITLED! Contemporary Art. The gallery is located at Rogstraat 28, 5373 AV Herpen, in The Netherlands. I will be quite busy this spring, participating in several art fairs in Europe and USA. ARTITLED! Contemporary Art will be showing a collection from my New York City series at Artantique in Utrecht, The Netherlands, April 16th to 25th, and at The Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam, The Netherlands, May 12th to 15th. The sizes of these prints are 81x81cm. My panorama images from this serie are also included, with print sizes up to 120x50cm, in a limited edition of 6. The art fair will be held in Geneva Palexpo, Switzerland. January 2011 My solo-exhibition, Focus on Light, will be opening on January 14th, 2011 at AD-Galerie in Geneva, Switzerland. I will be attending the opening reception from 5 pm to 8 pm. The exhibition will be running from January 14th to February 25th, 2011. September 2010 I am very pleased to announce that I am now represented by the gallery Swedish Photography in Berlin, Germany. The gallery is located at Oranienburger Strasse 27, a prime location on one of Berlin's most famous streets, in the heart of the city center. The gallery Swedish Photography is owned by curator Nina Grundemark. I am also pleased to announce that one of my images won 1st place in the category Nature for professional photographers, in the International Photography Awards 2010. I also received 8 Honorable Mentions in several other categories. My solo-show, Focus on Light, will be opening on October 1st at ArtPhotoCollection gallery in Gothenburg, Sweden. The exhibition is part of the annual cultural event called Culture Night. The ArtPhotoCollection gallery is situated in the center of Gothenburg, just a few minutes walk from the famous Hasselblad Center. The owners of the ArtPhotoCollection gallery, Lars Bengtsson and Kerstin Fiedler, have an extensive background with the Hasselblad camera company. They are also the founders of Hasselblad Masters, the most prestigious awards in the photography industry. I will be attending the opening reception from 6 pm - midnight. The exhibition will be running from October 1st to October 27th, 2010. May 2010 I am very pleased to announce that I am now represented by Susan Spiritus Gallery in Newport Beach, California, USA. For the past 30 years Susan Spiritus has been a leader in the field of fine art photography, representing some of the most well known and highly respected photographers. A new portfolio from New York City is now published on the website. A huge snowstorm covered Manhattan with several inches of snow the day after I arrived. I was lucky to get some nice photos from a beautiful snow-covered Central Park. February 2010 I'm very honored to announce that I had seven nominations in the 5th annual Black & White Spider Awards. I was awarded an Honor of Distinction in the category Silhouette, and an Honorable Mention in the category Nature. I just updated the portfolio Denmark with 21 new images. For the moment I'm preparing for an upcoming visit to New York City. October 2009 I have been quite busy this summer, travelling to the US and southern Europe. Two new portfolios are now up on the website, Chicago & New York and Basque Country. I'm pleased to announce that my Turning Torso Collection was awarded 2nd place in the category Advertising Architecture, and 3rd place in the category Fine Art Architecture for professional photographers in PX3 - Prix De La Photographie Paris, France 2009. April 2009 I recently updated the website with two new portfolios, Snow Scenes and, Central Europe, with a total number of 63 new images. I'm happy to announce that I won 1:st price in the National Geographic International Photography Contest here in Scandinavia. The winning image, called Amish Women, was taken on a ferry boat between Cape May, New Jersey and Lewes, Delaware last summer. Right now I'm preparing for an upcoming photography trip to Chicago and New York City. October 2008
I'm very happy and honored to announce that I was awarded two Black & White Spider Awards - Merit of Excellence - in the categories Fine Art and Nature. The winning images will be published in the World's Greatest Black & White Photography, Vol 2, and included in the Masters of Photography International Exhibition. I'm also very proud to announce that I'm a Merit Award Winner in the Black & White Magazine Single Image Contest 2009. The awarded photograph will be published in the Special Issue of Black & White Magazine scheduled to arrive on newsstands worldwide the first week of December, 2008. My solo exhibition, Water Works, is opening tonight, October 30, at galleri ikon here in Stockholm, Sweden. I will attend the opening reception from 5-9pm. The exhibition is running from Oct 30th to Nov 23rd, 2008. I just updated the portfolio Sweden II with 17 new images from a recent trip to the south part of Sweden, and 9 new images in the portfolio Stockholm. July 2008 A new portfolio from the United States is now published on the website. I spent a few days in the Mid-Atlantic states during the heatwave in June, with boiling mercury in the upper 90's! I also made a short detour down to Atlanta, Georgia. I'm very pleased to have my work included in the anniversary issue of SHOTS, no: 100, summer 2008. This well-reputed magazine is an independent journal for fine art photography, based in Minneapolis, USA. My image Rock Group was selected as the First Prize in Pilsner Urquell's promotion for photography in conjuction with the fine wine retailer Oddbins in the UK. The image was taken on a blustery day in January 2007, just a stone throw from the swedish director Ingmar Bergman's house at Hammars in Fårö, Sweden. The image was selected among 300 winners of International Photography Awards 2007. May 2008
Prix De La Photographie Paris (PX3) announces winners of the 2008 Competition: Håkan Strand of Sweden was Awarded: First Prize in category Nature for the entry titled, Little Lighthouse, and Second Prize in category Fine Art for the entry titled, Water Works. In addition to these two Awards, Håkan Strand also received 6 Honorable Mentions. The jury selected 2008's winner from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries. I'm very pleased to announce that the scandinavian magazine CAMERA NATURA will be featuring an 8 page spread with an interview in the first issue of 2008. November 2007 A new portfolio with 41 images from Iceland is now up on the website. As you can see, I have made a few updates lately. A special thanks to my wonderful wife, Deborah, for layout and design, and to my friend, Giuseppe Irollo, for all the work behind the scenes. I would also like to thank my eldest son, Paul, for being a good travel companion, and for his "sherpa work" on my recent trip to Iceland.

International Photography Awards (IPA) announces winners of the 2007 Competition: Håkan Strand of Sweden was Awarded: 1st and 2nd place in Fine Art Category, Landscape, for his Waterfront Studies. One of his award winning photographs was also selected for the Best Of Show. The 2007 Best of Show exhibition debuts at the Splashlight Studio Party on October 13th, in New York before traveling to 8 cities internationally. The Best of Show was curated by Anthony Bannon, Director of George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, USA. Håkan Strand also received three Honorable Mentions in the category Nature. I will have three images and a short narrative published in the May issue, 2007, of the brittish magazine, Black & White Photography.The three images were taken on a recent trip to Gotland this year. Gotland is a beautiful island located in the Baltic sea, a three-hour boat ride from the Swedish main land. |
